We have had other dogs and only one we had spayed before her first heat. All of the other dogs have been spayed after one or two heat cycles. I can't explain it any other way, but they mature after they go through their heat cycle. As a breeder once told me, "That is when they become a woman". I know it may sound odd, but it is true.

Male dogs that are neutered by 6 months old, will never lift their leg when peeing. They never get to that growth level. Same with a female. (not the peeing thing :) ) It develops their natural maturity. And it really isn't that messy at all.

I'm not a vet or anywhere near a medical animal expert. We're just animal (dog) lovers. And we have always found that waiting until she goes through at least one heat, (2 is best), they emerge better dogs. That is just our experience.

Good luck!!

Yes - I have a 4 month old girl "Belle" I had decided to get her spay. But now I don't know when. - my vet suggest by 6 months - why did you wait till 15 months if you don't mind me asking.

Greta is such a cutie! Growing up so fast. That is funny how Ren acts about your husband being affectionate. I remember when I first started dating my fiance. His dog was the same way, she is a Sheltie, but now we are best friends. I guess it just took her awhile to get used to me. Good luck with the invisible fence!
